Attitude

The importance of attitude has been discussed in books, from pulpits, on television shows and in other forums. I found the following thoughts on attitude in Charleston, South Carolina a few weeks ago.

Hyman's Seafood in downtown Charleston is an iconic restaurant. They have cards on each table with the following quote. I think it sums up quite nicely the importance of how we control our attitude. It is the Hyman's Seafood Motto.

"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude to me, is more important than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. It will make or break a company...a church...a home.

The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we embrace for that day. We cannot change our past...we cannot change the fact that people act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have...and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you...we are in charge of our attitudes."

The Home Depot

I've been a fan and a customer of The Home Depot for a long time now. Their store credit card is one of the few charge cards I have. That has now changed.

In the past few days I became aware of their blatant promotion of the homosexual agenda. This company has sponsored "gay pride" marches and parades in several cities across the country. They have aligned themselves with the Human Rights Campaign which is the leading group in the United States promoting the idea of "gay marriage".

The American Family Association has organized a boycott of The Home Depot. To date more than half a million people have joined the boycott. Their website is http://www.afa.net

The site for the Home Depot boycott can be found at http://www.boycottthehomedepot.com You can also click on the title of this post to be linked to the site. The site is very easy to navigate. They offer several great ideas on how to boycott effectively.

It's not possible for consumers and Christians to know the political and social positions of each and every company we do business with. I do believe however that when a company is as flagrant in promoting non-Christian beliefs as The Home Depot is, right thinking people need to take a stand. I encourage everyone to join this boycott and take a stand for morality and decency. In today's world companies will only pay attention when their bottom line is affected. That line can be affected when people stand up for what is right and what they believe in. Think about it!
